This wonderful car was purchased by a Mr K of Hove on 6th November 1968, the day it was first registered.

Mr K kept the car for two years, selling it to Mr N (an antiques dealer based in Tetbury) in 1970. Mr N enjoyed the 280SL for 10 years, before Mr A purchased the car on 29th April 1978. It is on behalf of Mr A that we now offer this car for sale, a chance to become the fourth keeper of this very fine Pagoda that has always lived in Gloucestershire.

The current keeper has owned this car for 43 years, diligently caring for it in the best possible way.

In 2005 this 280SL was car underwent a comprehensive restoration, including removal of the engine, axles and gearbox to take the car back to a bare shell. This work is fully documented in a photograph file that accompanies the car, along with the parts invoices from Mercedes-Benz. The work has been carried out to a high standard, and the car superbly cared for every since – it has been stored in a Carcoon and used sparingly, a fact which is evident on assessing this car today.

Present with the car is the original Mercedes-Benz brown plastic backed clear wallet, complete with all of the correct book packs. This includes ‘Catalog B’, the ‘Europa’ guide to service stations, the ‘Chassis/Body’ service manual and the ‘Owners Manual’. Also with the car is the original service booklet, rare to find with any Pagoda but complete with the service record listed below. In a small envelope there is the original identity plates which were removed during the restoration, and the ’Vehicles Excise Act Registration Book’ with license stamps dating from 1968 to 1970 – a rare find indeed and a neat addition to the history of this car. This has to be one of the most comprehensive Pagoda history files we have seen to date.

This is a superb car, a chance to acquire a rare and desirable classic Mercedes-Benz coming from long term ownership. Simply not to be missed.
