This sublime early Pagoda simply has to be seen.
1964 was the second year of the Mercedes-Benz W113 SL, with just under 7,000 cars built. By the end of 1964, a total of 8,276 ‘Pagodas’ had been produced, of which this car was number 3,529, built in the first quarter of 1964.
Presented in what can only be described as ‘concours’ condition, this car is superb inside, outside and underneath.
It was subject to a comprehensive restoration in 2012, detailed by receipts on file totalling more than £80,000. This involved a complete strip down of the car to it’s component parts, whereupon it was sandblasted and fully professionally repaired before being painstakingly re-assembled. To appreciate the lengths to which a previous owner has gone to restore this car, £80,000 in 2012 was roughly twice the purchase price paid for a very good 230SL Pagoda at auction at the time. This was a true labour of love, showing a high level of commitment to the car itself.
Restored to the original factory specification of Papyrus White with contrasting Blue Interior, this Pagoda presents in the way one might expect a brand new car to appear. The interior is all new, carefully matched to the original specification as it would have presented in 1964. We strongly advise prospective buyers to book an appointment and see this car in the flesh – you will not be disappointed.
*(All vehicles built on or before 1979 are exempt from road tax, on a one year rolling basis, assuming no further changes to this in forthcoming budgets)
