1988 Mercedes-Benz R107 420 SL with Beige Leather (275)

Wonderful 420SL in rare colourway with well documented history of care by a number of UK-based specialists including SLSHOP.

Returning to our Showroom following a long stint of enjoyment, we are delighted to present this wonderful and rare Willow Green (261) R107 420SL.

Known to SLSHOP for over ten years, this 420SL is a unique and example of a late 1980s grand tourer, thanks to its factory specification of Willow Green (261) and Beige Leather (275) with a Dark Brown Soft Top (8023). A combination that is rarely found on the international market, possibly due to the 17 different colourways offered by Mercedes-Benz at the time. Quite the contrast to modern dealerships where we are forced to choose between blue, black, grey or white.

The exterior paintwork is in fantastic order thanks to a repaint no less than ten years ago, while all the exterior fixings and chrome is sharp and well presented. This is contrasted by an equally fantastic interior which has, despite being leather, stood the test of time almost as well as MB Tex does. The carpets, dash topper and centre wood spine are all clean and not tarnished, cracked or in need of replacement. Inside, the driver benefits from electric windows, cruise control, rear seats, heat insulated mirrors and glass and a fire extinguisher for those unlikely emergencies. As a higher specification and late R107 model, this 420SL features Limited Slip Differential, giving more traction and direct, usable power. The 420SL offers a fantastic, refined experience, utilising that V8 in a mannered, conservative way.

This 420SL has been very well cared for indeed, particularly as the first owner clearly used the vehicle for commuting purposes given the consumption of over 6,000 miles in the first three months of ownership.

Notable works carried out on this 420SL over the years include a repaint of the bodywork by SLSHOP in 2013, as well as the hard top a few years later. Similarly, a lot of attention has been paid to the mechanicals, with regular engine and gearbox services carried out the various owners between the mid-2000s and 2019.
