Mercedes-Benz produced the 420SL between 1985 and 1989, alongside the six cylinder 300SL and V8 engined 500SL. Although considered by many to be the sweetest of all SL engines, production of the 420SL was dwarfed by the other models.

Just over 2,000 420SLs left the factory, compared to some 13,000 six cylinders cars. With 215bhp on tap the 420SL is no slouch, more than capable of keeping up with modern traffic and well suited to long distance touring.

This is a very rare ‘Triple Black’ car with black coachwork, black leather and black soft top. Triple Black is an incredibly smart colour combination for an R107 SL, one we don’t see as often as we would like. Leather and rear seating would have been expensive optional extras back in 1989, making this a very carefully considered purchase for the first owner.
